MAES Families,
Welcome to Monroe Avenue Elementary School, where a rich tradition of excellence, a strong sense of community, and a shared commitment to student success create an outstanding learning environment. MAES has a long-standing reputation for nurturing, challenging, and celebrating students, and I am truly honored to serve a school community that holds such high expectations for all learners.
As I begin my 12th year in education, I bring a wide range of experiences in both teaching and leadership. Education has always been a passion and a priority in my life. I am a proud graduate of Richmond Senior High and earned my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Math Education from Appalachian State University, followed by a Master of School Administration from Campbell University. Over the past eleven years, I have had the opportunity to serve as a middle school teacher, high school teacher, and assistant principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Building strong relationships is at the heart of my work. I believe families should always feel welcomed, valued, and connected to our school. Whether greeting students, visiting classrooms, or engaging with parents, I strive to be a visible, approachable leader. Open communication, trust, and collaboration are essential to a positive school culture, and I am deeply committed to fostering these each day.
My goal is to continue building upon the strong foundation already in place at Monroe Avenue Elementary. Together with our dedicated faculty and staff, I am committed to creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
I strongly believe in the power of partnership between home and school. Your voice matters, and your involvement plays a crucial role in your child’s success. I encourage you to stay connected, share your ideas, and work alongside us as we continue to make MAES a place where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn.
Whether you are new to Monroe Avenue Elementary or have been part of our school family for years, I am excited to partner with you and be part of your child’s educational journey. Go tigers!
Thank you,
Ismael Gomez, Principal
